HOW TO MAKE SIMULATED STAINED GLASS
WITH IASCO COOKING CRYSTALS

(CAUTION: THE FOLLOWING PROCESS USES LEAD BASED MATERIALS. LEARN AND OBSERVE ALL SAFETY AND DISPOSAL PROCEDURES BEFORE STARTING PROJECT.)

STEP 1
LAYOUT
Hand draw or computer design and print an "actual size" pattern
using 1/8" lines to represent the lead channel. Have all of the design "cells"
close. In effect, you are making little boxes out of lead channel and joining
the boxes together to form a picture or pattern. For the layout have all the box walls 1/8" thick.
Most soldering is done on the BACK of the pattern, so it might be easier to print out the pattern
Backwards the top surface (laid out on the pattern sheet) will be the BACK
surface of your project and easier to solder together.

STEP 2
FRAMEWORK IN LEAD CHANNEL

Here is a suggested equipment list:
Wire cutter, Needle Nose Pliers,
15-30 watt soldering iron, rosin core solder,
Jeweler's saw, Protractor, fine file, 12" ruler.

Cut and shape the lead channel to lay over the pattern on the layout sheet. Try using the protractor and Jeweler's Saw
to miter the corners of the lead for a clean fit. Solder together, making sure to close each box of the design.

STEP 3
COOKING CRYSTALS

Place the soldered frame onto a Teflon cookie sheet (back side up)
and "fill" the boxes of the design with the appropriate color crystal.
Cook in a preheated oven at 250F for 5 or 10 minuets or until the crystals
are fused and of the desired texture. Allow to cool before removing from cookie sheet.
